Late YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki shares more details about her lung cancer diagnosis last August at the age of 56.

Susan Wojcicki, who died after nearly a decade at the helm of the company, wrote the blog just weeks before her death and planned to publish it herself.

A YouTube representative told Business Insider that following the death of the internet giant’s CEO, her family and the company decided to post it on the YouTube blog in November, which is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. YouTube also partnered with Stand Up To Cancer on a small lung cancer information site.

In her blog, Susan Wojcicki revealed that she was surprised by the diagnosis, as she was a non-smoker and jogged every day!

He was diagnosed in late 2022 with non-small cell lung cancer, the most common form of respiratory disease.

The most important lesson that – as the 56-year-old businesswoman wrote – she learned from living with the disease was “to focus and enjoy every moment”.

“Life is unpredictable for everyone, with many unknowns, but there is much beauty in everyday life,” he wrote. “My goals going forward are to enjoy the present as much as possible and fight for a better understanding and cures for this disease.”

In February 2023, she stepped down from her professional duties to devote herself to “family, health and personal actions,” cancer research, she wrote, hoping to raise as much funding as possible to fight the disease for patients.

Before her lung cancer diagnosis, she and her husband, Dennis Troper, were already active supporters of cancer research and technologies such as genetic sequencing.

“After my diagnosis, we stepped up our efforts as we quickly learned that lung cancer was under-researched and misunderstood,” wrote Susan Wojcicki.

The couple has given millions of dollars to research in areas such as immunotherapy and early detection.

“I intend to raise awareness and fight for more resources for lung cancer patients in general,” was her last sentence in her pre-death blog.
