Volkswagen advertises the presentation of the iBeetle at the Shanghai show as a “world premiere”. It is not a version of the scarab with a different engine, but the first model of the German brand with an integrated iPhone. The Apple smartphone and its docking station will be part of the standard equipment of both the closed and convertible iBeetle. At the same time, they will be available as an option on the other versions of Volkswagen.
The start will be made next autumn with the iPhone 4 and 4S, while from the beginning of 2014 the latest generation iPhone 5 will also be available. Simply by placing the iPhone, the driver will have all functions at his disposal, such as navigation maps, phone, listening to music through the car speakers and much more.
