The young “democratic socialist” Zohran Mamdani, who was elected mayor of New York yesterday Tuesday (04.44.2025), estimated that the city, the birthplace of the American president, can “show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him”.
He is young, charismatic, highly communicative, anti-systemic and particularly active on social media.
In his victory speech, the 34-year-old, who on January 1 will become the first Muslim mayor of the largest US city, also judged that “hope defeated tyranny” and that “in this period of political turmoil, New York will become the light”, describing Trump as a “tyrant”.
Mamdani pledged in his victory speech that his mayoralty would not give up the fight “against the scourge of anti-Semitism.” He also said that the one million plus Muslims of New York will have a place in the “corridors of power”.
