The Prime Minister will highlight the United Nations Convention on Sea Law
The prime minister Kyriakos MitsotakisIn his intervention in the high -level debate of the Security Council on sea security, he is expected to refer to asymmetric threats, such as smuggling, terrorism, piracy, hybrid attacks, and climate change.
It will emphasize the need to deal with illegal practices that endanger global trade and maritime environment, while making special reference to practices such as bypassing sanctions. He will talk about the situation in the Red Sea and the importance of collective action in similar cases, while highlighting the leading role Greece has taken on both Aspides and Atalanta and Irini.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis will emphasize that freedom of electricity and data connectivity through underwater cables is non -negotiable and is a prerequisite for differentiation, high quality and affordable energy and technology.
The prime minister will also bring the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a basis for global sea governance in order to tackle today’s and emerging threats, as well as the need to respect it.
