Overall 91 domestic cases of infection from the virus of West Nile and 8 Deaths have been diagnosed and explored in Greece, from the beginning of the period 2025, until October 1st, according to EU data. Of the 91 cases, 73 have had events from the central nervous system (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute loose paralysis) and 18 cases had mild events/no CNS events.
During the last week, four new domestic cases and one death were diagnosed/ reported.
There have also been two imported cases of infection, exposed to other foreign countries (one in Serbia and one in Italy), which are not included in further analysis.
West Nile virus infection cases have been recorded in Greece in 40 Municipalities of the country, in 22 Regional/ Metropolitan Units, In particular in the Regional/ Metropolitan Units: West Attica, Western Sector of Athens, Piraeus, Islands, East Attica, Central Sector of Athens, North Athens, Ilia, Achaia, Aitoloakarnania, Evros, Larissa, Larissa, Larissa, Larissa, Larissa, Larissa Heraklion.
The EDY considers it possible to diagnose further outbreaks in the coming period.
To European Union And in countries neighboring, during the period 2025, until 24/09/2025, – in addition to our country – cases of infection by the IM in: Albania, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Turkey.
