The research on tragedy in Vorizia continue unabated as authorities try to unravel the tangle of events that led to the double murder. The focus of the investigations is now transferred to the prisons of Alikarnassos, where people from the environment of the victims and the alleged perpetrators are being examined.
Interrogations inside prisons
Under strict security measures and accompanied by heavily armed men of EKAM (Special Suppression Anti-Terrorist Unit), three members of the Kargaki family, prisoners for animal theft, were taken from the prisons of Halicarnassus to the Heraklion Police Department to give new statements. Together with them, two more inmates of the prisons are being examined, as knives and two mobile phones were found in their cells.
The investigators of the case estimate that through the conversations, the findings and the relationships of the prisoners, critical information may emerge for three main questions:
- who gave the order for placing the bomb in the home of the Fragiadakis family,
- who built it
- and who posted it.
The police are considering the possibility that the mastermind of the attack is already inside the prisons, which makes the investigation even more complicated.
The fatal visitation
It is worth noting that the 39-year-old who died in the fight had visited the prisons of Halicarnassus, where his relatives were held, one day before the massacre. This event is considered a critical element in the investigation, as it may be linked to the start of the bloody chain of events.
At the same time, the investigator examines the mobile phones found in the cells, while the forensic laboratories analyze the data for any communications before the explosion.
Intensive weapons searches
At the same time, the police authorities are continuing the investigations to identify the weapons used in the two murders.
As stated by the press representative of the Greek Police, Constantia Demoglidou, “there are testimonies that help to clarify the situation, however we still do not know with certainty the role of each person involved”.

About 50 police officers from special units of EKAM, OPKE and other services have already arrived in Crete, who are “combing” the wider area, even in the mountains, looking for deadly weapons and possible hiding places.
The atmosphere in the village
In Vorizia, life seems to have frozen. The coffee shop and the mini market remain closed, residents avoid socializing and houses remain closed. The village, once bustling with life, has fallen into silence.
At the spot where 56-year-old Evangelia Fragiadakis fell dead, relatives have left a few flowers and a candle that burns continuously.
All eyes are on the nine days of the two victims, which will be held under strict security measures, as even the slightest meeting of the two families causes fears of new tension.
Next steps
Monday is considered decisive, as the three brothers and their two relatives who are said to be directly involved in the massacre are expected to apologize.
In the meantime, the two people who were hospitalized in Heraklion were transferred to Athens last night by the liner and are now being held in prisons outside Crete.
The village’s schools – the kindergarten and primary – are expected to open on Monday, with psychologists and social workers on hand to support the children and their families.
