At the International Congress Concordia Annual Summit 2025carried out at New York From September 21 to 24, Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum participated, Sevi Voloudaki.
In her speech on Tuesday, September 23, Ms Voloudakis presented immigration as a global challenge, inextricably linked to geopolitical, security and social cohesion.
The deputy minister pointed out that migration is increasingly linked to geopolitical tensions and security issues. Special reference made to the recent increase in flows to Crete from Libya, stressing that the Greek government is facing new pressures, through a combination of operational measures and institutional initiatives.
Referring to the government’s strategy, he underlined that Greece today is shielded, with a new reception system and legislative initiatives that prevent illegal entrances and reinforce return mechanisms, while protecting human rights and are in line with the European framework. He also stressed that the institutional framework is tightened, with the aim of effectively combating illegal immigration and dismantling traffickers’ circuits, giving a clear message of zero tolerance to criminal practices that endanger human lives and the security of the country.
At the same time, he underlined that “Greek border is also European borders”, calling for greater and more substantial subscription than the European Union, both at the level of resources and at the level of common surveillance and management mechanisms.
It also highlighted the importance of legal immigration channels, which cover the growing needs of workforce in areas such as agriculture, tourism, building and green technologies, contributing to the development of the Greek economy.
He made a special reference to the protection of unaccompanied minors, noting that Greece has invested in housing, education and support structures, turning child protection into a field of innovation and social cohesion. “Integration is a tool for long -term safety and growth,” he said.
In closing, Ms Voloudakis emphasized that the Greek government is pursuing a policy that combines stability with justice, the management of migratory flows with protection and the national interest with European solidarity, building a strategy with realism, insight and humanity.
