Its chairman Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenskiaccused Russia today (Tuesday 20.5.25) of trying to save time to continue the war and the occupation of Ukrainian territory.
Speaking a day after US President Donald Trump discussed the war with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Volodimir Zelenski said that the war in Ukraine must end through negotiations and that there should be a new one.
Zelenski, who said he spoke with Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the peace process, also called for more pressure with international sanctions in Russia.
“It is clear that Russia is trying to save time to continue its war and occupation,” Zelenski said on social media.
“We work with partners to put pressure on the Russians to behave differently. Sanctions are important, and I am grateful to anyone who makes them more trespassed for the perpetrators of war. “
Trump said Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations for a truce, but the Kremlin announced that this process would take time and the US president pointed out that he was not ready to follow Europe and impose new sanctions to push Moscow. Trump said he had informed this plan by Zelenski as well as leaders of the EU, France, Italy, Germany and Finland on a group telephone call after contacting Putin.
“We have no doubt that the war must end at the negotiating table,” Zelenski wrote on Telegram.
“There must be clear and realistic suggestions on the table. Ukraine is ready for any effective trading formulas. And if Russia continues to raise unrealistic terms and undermine any results, then there must be strict consequences. “
