Hundreds of thousands of residents in seaside areas of Vietnamhave already begun to be rushed out of their homes today (25.08.2025), as typhoon Katziki is threateningly approaching the central part of the country, with winds nearly 160 kilometers per hour.
Katziki, the fifth hurricane affecting Vietnam this year, is currently in the sea, in the Gulf of Tinin, where it causes waves of up to 9.5 meters high.
Hurricane is expected to reach over the ground at around 13:00 (local time; at 09:00 Greek time) with a speed of 157 kilometers per hour, according to the Vietnam Hydrometeorological Provision Center.
About 325,000 citizens in five seaside provinces were expected to be expeditiously removed, with authorities temporarily refuge in schools and various other public buildings.
The center of Vin, a seaside city in the central part of the country, was flooded at night.

In the morning, the roads were almost completely empty and most shops and restaurants were closed. Merchants and residents had placed sand bags to protect their businesses or homes.
At dawn, nearly 30,000 people were rushed from the area, two national airports were closed and all the fishing boats on the hurricane were ordered to return to the ports.
However, the extreme weather is expected to lose much of its intensity after reaching over the ground.
More than ten internal flights were canceled yesterday, while on the island of Hainan, in China, authorities were hurrying 20,000 inhabitants as the hurricane passed by the southern coast.
In Vietnam, more than 100 people were killed or preached missing due to natural disasters during the first seven months of 2025, according to the numbers by the Ministry of Agriculture. Damage to the national economy is estimated to have more than $ 21 million.
The country suffered a loss of $ 3.3 billion in September 2023, when the strong Hurricane Jagi hit it, causing extensive catastrophes in the north and leaving hundreds of dead behind.
