Following the footsteps of his friend and political ally, Donald Trumpthe Victor Orban It plans to adopt a hard line against the leftist movement “Antifa” by characterizing the terrorist organization.
«It is time for Hungary to classify organizations like Antifa as a terrorist, following the American example“, Said Victor Orban, expressly referring to Donald Trump’s decision.
In particular, the US president announced this week that he intends to describe Antifa in the US “major terrorist organization”. But how this will be implemented remains unclear, especially given the relaxed and decentralized structure of the movement.
Experts have also pointed out that Trump has no legal mechanism to characterize Antifa domestic terrorist organization. Such a characterization can only be attributed to foreign groups.
Orban did not disclose details, but said he was welcoming Trump’s initiative and planning similar measures in Hungary, but described antifa as a violent, criminal force that has targeted peaceful people in Hungary.
“Some were almost beaten to death, and then some became members of the European Parliament, taking lessons in Hungary on the rule of law and left -wing politics,” he said in conflicts that had occurred in February 2023 in Budapest.
At that time, militant anti -fascists had traveled from abroad to protest a concentration of far -right, resulting in violent clashes.
Judicial proceedings related to those attacks continue in Germany and Budapest. Some suspects have been arrested while others have been delivered. Among them was the leftist Italian politician Ilaria Salis, a member of the European Parliament.
