A new political controversy broke out on social media between SYRIZA MP Paul Polaki and the Minister of Health Adoni Georgiadis, on the occasion of complaints about shortages of medical equipment and infrastructure at the Gavdos Regional Medical Center.
Paul Polakis’ complaint
Pavlos Polakis posted on Facebook a letter of residents of the island, “dedicated” as he told Adonis Georgiadis, accompanying it with harsh characterizations.
As the inhabitants complain, there is only one pressure gauge on the island, the only ambulance is in collapse, while its driver is not an EKAB rescuer, but … a ghost.
Adonis Georgiadis’ response
The Minister of Health, posting on social media, denied complaints, arguing that the clinic had an electronic blood pressure gaker and adequate medical equipment.
As he explained, the pressure gauge is transferred to the needs between the clinic and the ambulance, without affecting the operation. He also stressed that there are no unjustified deficiencies or rejecting requests for materials by the competent health services.
For the ambulance, Mr. Georgiadis admitted that it was older but functional, and announced that he would pass the regular check -up after the summer season. In addition, he clarified that the management of corpses does not fall under the responsibilities of the clinic, but is done by ceremonies, with the clinic having the necessary bags to meet such needs.

Polakis’ response
In a new post, Pavlos Polakis described the minister as “Archbishop” and “Thrasy”, insisting that the clinic has only one pressure gauge. At the same time, it reported serious deficiencies to the ambulance, such as a lack of KTEO, the absence of a base for oxygen bottle and basic spare parts, such as brake pads.
