THE director Vassilis Papavassiliou died on Friday (06.06.2025) leaving behind a large gap in the theater and the whole art world will tell him the “last goodbye” at his funeral on Wednesday, June 11th.
The acclaimed director “extinguished” at the age of 76 and in recent years had been facing serious health problems, and recently he had been hospitalized for a month in a public hospital. Spyros Bibilas on Saturday night (07.06.2025) announced that Vassilis Papavassiliou’s funeral will be held at the Church of St. Sofia Meropi Acropolis and burial will take place at the First Cemetery of Athens.

Vassilis Papavassiliou was born in Thessaloniki in 1949, began his studies at the Aristotle University Medical School, but soon won the art of acting. He enrolled at the Drama School of the Art Theater, where he began to chart his career in the country’s theatrical landscape.
In the course of his career, the direction of 30 performances over 32 years, including works by classical and contemporary writers such as: Sophocles, Goldoni, Marivo, Horvat, Bond, Shakespeare, Pirandello, Moliere, Anagnostaki, Staikou, Maniotis, and others.
In addition, he was involved in the translation of theatrical and pedestrian texts, a worker on works by writers such as Goldoni, Bond, Moliere, Bart, Sad, and many others.
