Vassilis Kikilias: “The port of Piraeus is reinforced with another 50 ports”

Operational support at the port of Piraeus – the second within 3 months – with 50 additional Coast Guard executives, took place in the presence of the Minister of Maritime and Island Policy, Claus Kikilia.

Addressing the 100 executives, the minister stressed that security “is an absolute priority for the ministry, while a parallel aim is to serve Greek and foreign travelers”.

He pointed out that the leadership of the Coast Guard-Greek Coast Guard immediately responded to the need for aid, with high-education and efficiency officers and called on all executives to show professionalism, respect for citizens and appreciation for seafarers and employees.

He made special reference to the PPA infrastructure upgrading interventions, which – as he said – would contribute to congestion and better passenger service: covers, chillers, chemical toilets, new markings, parking spaces, and vehicle -loading means.

Recognizing the contribution of body executives throughout the territory, from Piraeus to the islands and the Eastern Aegean, Mr. Kikilias described their mission patriotic and highest level, noting that their work was being given universal recognition.

The Chief of the Coast Guard-Greek Coast Guard, Vice Admiral LS Tryphon Kontizas, thanked the new executives for their willingness to serve in demanding conditions, pointing out that this aid comes in response to increased passenger flows and aims at the safety, faster loading and proper operation of ferry transport. He added that he believes in their abilities and thanked the competent services, expressing gratitude to the administration for the implementation of port strengthening.
