USA: Trade negotiations with China are ‘in a dead end’, says Scott Bessed

The trade negotiations of USA with China They are “a little deadlocked”, as US Finance Minister Scott Besed said yesterday (29.5.2025), adding that the US president and his Chinese counterpart could take part in them.

“I would say they are a little deadlocked,” the US finance minister told Fox News about the ongoing trade negotiations with China. “I think we will have other conversations with them in the coming weeks and I believe that, at a given time, there can be a call between the president (ed: Donald Trump) and the president (…) Si” ginning, he added.

The two world forces agreed in May to suspend for 90 days the customs duties imposed on each other, in a surprise decline in a trade war, which was achieved after talks in Geneva.

As part of this trade truce, Washington and Beijing agreed to restore customs duties respectively from 145% to 30% to Chinese products and from 125% to 10% in US products.
