The firing thunderstorms that hit New York and New Jersey – Thursday (31.07.2025) – caused chaos throughout the area with floods and roads turning into rivers.
On central highways from Philadelphia to New York, rescue crews had to unleash drivers trapped in the rushing waters.
The rail lines were immersed in the water. Trains and passengers were trapped. Rescue groups were able to safely remove the trapped.

In New Jersey, more than 14,000 citizens were left without electricity for more than 24 hours.

Due to bad weather, New York warned residents that heavy rains may cause floods on roads, underground and subway network and called on those who stay in underground apartments to move to taller floors.
Significant delays and cancellations were reported at New York airports, New Jersey, Washington and Philadelphia.
