The index, which in the US is a key tool for measuring inflation, has risen 0.1% in both May and April. On an annual basis, inflation stood at 2.3% in May, from 2.2% last month.
Structural inflation (without energy and food prices) increased by 0.2% on a monthly basis, as opposed to 0.1% of April. At an annual level, the rise was 2.7%, compared to 2.6% in April.
Personal income decreased by 0.4% in May, according to data from the US Economic Analysis Office. At the same time, consumer spending fell 0.1% in the same month, losing the upward trend of April (0.2%). Forecasts, based on Reuters, had shown a slight rise in 0.1%.
