It is a scenario that few imagined a few weeks ago. According to a Bloomberg agency survey, the United States and Russia are alleged to discuss a plan for a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine and a meeting between Donald Trump and his Vladimir Putin. This agreement would allow Moscow to maintain de facto the territories it has conquered since the beginning of the invasion, according to Bloomberg.
American and Russian officials are working, according to the report, in a framework for an agreement in view of a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, scheduled for next week. Moscow has not commented, and the White House spoke of “speculation”.
The Ukrainian government has not made a formal reaction, but Volodimir Zelenski stressed in a subsequent announcement that a “decent, reliable and lasting peace” is needed through joint efforts with the US.
Vladimir Putin continues to claim the annexation of the four areas of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizia and Hersona, as well as Crimea. But the Russian forces do not fully control all the territories of these areas.
Former American diplomat Tyson Barker estimated that any such agreement would be rejected by Ukraine, which would have to remain firm in its positions and continue to express its gratitude for US support.
The plan, according to Bloomberg, foresees the termination of military operations from the Russian side to Hersona and Zaporizia, but without departure from today’s front lines.
