‘US, Russia close to Ukraine solution – Important that Zelensky recognized front lines’, Kremlin says

Despite the cancellation of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest and despite new US sanctions on Russian oil groups, the Kremlin announced that USA and Russia is very close to a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine.

Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special envoy for investment and economic cooperation, told CNN on Friday (10/24/2025) that the US and Russia are one step away from an agreement to end the war in Ukrainewhich enters its 4th year in February.

“I think Russia and the US and Ukraine are actually quite close to a diplomatic solution. It was an important move by President Volodymyr Zelensky that he now recognized that the issue is front lines” said Kirill Dmitriev, in Washington.

“You know, his previous position was that Russia should leave (from Ukrainian territory) completely, so (…) I think we are close enough to a diplomatic solution that can be closed,” he added.

He also said that the planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest was not cancelled, but was postponed. He expects it to be done at a later date.

Despite this development and the announcement of new American sanctions, Kirill Dmitriev assured that Washington’s dialogue with Moscow continues.

“The impact of sanctions on Russian oil is low”

Speaking about the new US sanctions on Russian oil groups, he emphasized that he believes that they will not particularly affect the economy of his country.

Mr. Dmitriev spoke on Fox News after arriving in Washington for meetings with American officials.

“We do not believe that these sanctions will have a significant impact on the Russian economy, because international oil prices will increase and Russia will simply sell smaller quantities of crude but at higher prices,” the envoy explained.
