The exact reason has not been clarified, but the 84 -year -old Aria has openly criticized the policies of expulsion of immigrants and duties adopted by US President Donald Trump.
He has also disapproved of current President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chavez, who maintains close relations with Trump administration and which Aria accuses he is receiving orders directly from Washington.
“The US is an example of democracy or at least existed. Today, they present features of authoritarianism, something I personally regret, “Oscar Aria said during a press conference on Tuesday night in Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose.
He is not the first former Central American country president to lose his American visa, but most of his counterparts were confronted with corruption -related judicial prosecutions.
According to local media, the Trump government also recalled Costa Rica’s entry visits.
