Increasingly increasing scenarios for security guarantees in Ukraine After the war with Russia, with many of them, to speak of aerial surveillance by the USA but also for the creation of a demilitarized zone.
If there is ever a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, the US could take on the leading role in supervising a large security zone inside Ukrainewhich is proposed as a measure of protecting the country from Russia.
This was reported by four sources with a plan of planning military officials from the Ukrainian allied countries, including the US, the NBC network reports.
This zone will be an extensive demilitarized area – its exact borders have not yet been defined – which will separate Russian from Ukrainian territories in Ukraine. The US, due to its advanced technological capabilities, will play a key role in monitoring the zone with drones, satellites and other methods of collecting information, but in collaboration with other countries involved in surveillance.
Zone security could be entrusted to troops from non -NATO countries, such as Saudi Arabia or even Bangladesh, according to the same sources. US troops will not be developed in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will have to agree on any security guarantees plan for Ukraine. NATO’s involvement is a major issue for him, which is why designers explicitly avoid talking about the use of NATO forces or even the use of the “name” of the alliance itself.
Instead, the guarantees will probably be based on troops outside NATO countries and a “mosaic” of Ukraine bilateral agreements with its allies, which will provide security assurances without activating Article 5 of NATO (“attacking one means attacking everyone”), which is a “red line”.
The plan remains at a preliminary stage, as the agreement of both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and the leaders of the countries involved, including US President Donald Trump, is required.
This plan was formed after the Trump – Putin meeting in Alaska August 15th. Although there were expectations that the meeting would lead to new negotiations, even in a direct dialogue between Putin and Zelenski, progress in a peacekeeping agreement has frozen. Nevertheless, Ukraine allies continue their work on possible security guarantees, which are considered to be a key to achieving peace.
On Thursday, members of the informal group of allies, known as the “alliance of the willing”, met to examine the official design of the project. The meeting was led by France and the United Kingdom, which are expected to take over the leadership of the overall effort to security after the war.
