Due to the tightening of duties in USA many European post office They announced the suspension of parcels on the other side of the Atlantic, with some exceptions.
From Monday (18.8.25), the French Post Company La Poste pointed out that it would not accept parcels to the US, with the exception of what is sent through Chronopost or when it comes to gifts between natural persons which is less than 100 euros.
“Due to the lack of additional information from US customs on the technical terms of parcel to the US, we have no choice but to temporarily suspend the missions,” a La Poste official said.
A similar announcement was issued by the German Post Company, explaining that it would significantly “temporarily” limit parcels and products to the US.
From today the Deutsche Post, now renamed DHL Group, will “temporarily suspend” the standard shipping parcels to the US. This service is usually used by natural persons and small businesses and refers to parcels of a maximum weighing of 31 kg, DHL explains on its website.
Only parcels declared as gifts will be accepted and have a maximum value of $ 100 (86 euros), as well as the sending of documents.
However, DHL stresses that it will apply checks to avoid irregularities.
Already in April, DHL had pointed out that it temporarily suspended parcel missions to the US worth more than 800 euros.
In addition, other national postal service providers in Europe – such as Belgium BPost, Spain’s Correos, Postnord, the Danish network, or even Austrian Post of Austria – have made corresponding restrictions.
And the movement could spread as Posteurop, the Union of European Postal Bodies, which represents European Public Postal Bodies and includes 52 members, warned on August 19th of the risk of suspending parcel missions to the US at European level.
The new US regulations, “who adopt a different approach from the global level by the World Postal Association”, will have a “significant impact on postal companies around the world and their customers who send products through postal networks to the US postal service,” Posteuros said.
Unless a “solution” is found “before the regulation entered into force on August 29, 2025, Posteurop members, in agreement with the competent national authorities, may be forced to restrict or temporarily suspend the shipment of goods through postal networks to the United States,” he warned.
At the end of July, the government of US President Donald Trump announced that it would end the tax exemption provided for small parcels entering the United States, with effect on August 29.
Washington will tax the postal missions – worth less than $ 800 – at the same rate that applies to other EU products, ie 15%, according to the trade agreement signed at the end of July
