The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Layenby posting in X expressed her sympathy to Cyprus people, tested by the devastating fires.
Her message, ‘Our thoughts are with the Cypriot people tested by the devastating fires. OR European Union It stands in solidarity next to Cyprus during these difficult times. We have directly mobilized resources through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, including Air Rairs of the Resceu Fleet, to help extinguish the fires. I would like to thank the firefighters and all members of the rescue forces, both from Cyprus and from other European countries, for their self -sacrifice and courage. Solidarity is our power. Together we will overcome this testยป.

We have urgently mobilised support via our Civil Protection Mechanism.
This summer, nearly 670 firefighters from 14 countries and a #resceu fleet of 22 planes and 4 helicopters are deployed to countries in need.
