From June 15, with the completion of school yearthe building crews are entering 426 schools in the country, located in 245 municipalities across the country.
The “Marietta Giannakou” program for upgrading projects in hundreds of public school units of all levels is being implemented.
Projects in most schools are expected to be completed until early September, before the next sanctification, and in some cases their completion is projected by the end of November.
The planning was reportedly finalized during a meeting held yesterday, Friday, at the Maximos Mansion, under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, Minister of Education Sofia Zacharakis and Minister of Education. The projects will be undertaken by “Building Infrastructure SA”, the construction body of the Greek state.
“It is a commitment announced to the TIF and is becoming a practice. An investment in public education, so that students and teachers are in an environment that more favorable to learning and love for sports, in terms of equal access and without exclusion, “a government source noted.
The “Marietta Giannakou” program includes the radical renovation or construction of hygiene, which will be suitable for students or teachers with disabilities, the renovation or construction of basketball and volleyball stadiums in schools, as well as playgrounds in kindergartens, and in the fields.
Where needed, waterproofing-repair of the roof and an elevator or lift installation for people with disabilities will also be funded.
In the first stage, resources will come from a donation of € 100 million from the four systemic banks, which took place through the Hellenic Bank Association. Further credits from the Public Investment Program will follow.
Most of the 426 schools where interventions will be made are elementary, more than 230 in number, and more than 150 are secondary units. The program included the special schools proposed by municipalities, units in areas recently affected by natural disasters, and priority was given to remote and island zones.
