Mini officials have announced that the top-of-the-range John Cooper Works versions will now be available with an improved engine. Although the power and torque of the 1.6 lt unit has remained unchanged (211 PS or 218 PS and 28.5 kgm), the new engine has a lower consumption of 0.5 lt/100 km (6.6 lt/ 100 km) and reduced emissions (153 g/km).
To achieve these values, Mini engineers used stronger materials, strengthened the pistons and installed a much lighter crankshaft. They also improved the exhaust system and installed a Start/Stop system.
In addition to the engine changes, the Mini John Cooper Works models will also be available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
