OR Russia launched last night (10.12.2024) a devastating missile attack on Zaporizhiakilling at least nine people and injuring another 20, according to the latest tally announced today (11.12.2024) by the local governor.
Russia’s leveling bombings in Zaporizhia have caused massive material damage, with the relevant Ukrainian emergency service still reporting that four people may still be trapped in the rubble.
“Despite the efforts of the doctors, another injured person succumbed to the injuries in the hospital. This is a 74-year-old man,” according to Governor Ivan Fyodorov. Among the injured is a 5-year-old girl. A clinic was destroyed by the bombing and one office building in the city center. The governor said 20 residences and three other buildings were damaged. More than 160 rescuers continue to search the wreckage.

Zaporizhia Oblast is one of four annexed by Russia in 2022although it does not fully control them. Specialist analysts and Ukrainian military believe that the Russian military may be planning a new ground operation on the southern front, where the lines have remained stagnant in recent months.

Such an attack would pose a challenge to the Ukrainian militarywho is already struggling on the eastern front and fighting at the same time in the Kursk region, of which he has captured a part. Russia is systematically carrying out airstrikes in Zaporizhia and the surrounding area. Last Friday, one such attack killed 10 people and injured more than 20.

Both sides deny that their attacks target civilians, saying the attacks are aimed at destroying each other’s infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday called on Ukraine’s allies to provide it with 10-12 Patriot air defense systems that will be able to fully cover its airspace.
