Ukraine: Prime Minister Denis Smichal resigned in the context of government reshuffle

In the context of a large government reshuffle promoted by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, resigned today (15.07.2025) by prime minister of the country, Denis Smichal.

Zelenski proposed Julia Svirindenko, the first vice -president of the government and finance minister yesterday, to become a new prime minister, replacing Denis Smichal, who will take over the defense ministry.

“Dennis Smichhal’s enormous experience will certainly be useful in the position of defense minister,” said Zelenski, who is intended by current Defense Minister Rustem Umero for the position of Ukraine’s ambassador to the US.

Dennis Smihal has served as prime minister in 2020 and helped to guide the country when the Russian invasion began.

It is noted that The Ukrainian president made a post yesterday (14.07.2025) for the new Prime Minister Julia SvirindenkoBy saying: “We discussed specific measures to strengthen Ukraine’s financial potential, expand support programs for Ukrainians and upgrading domestic weapons production.”

“To achieve this goal, we are taking the initiative of the transformation of executive power into Ukraine,” the Ukrainian president said, adding that he proposed that Svidienko lead the government and “significantly renew its work,” he added.
