Ukraine: Former US Ambassador resigned because he disagreed with President Trump’s foreign policy

The former US ambassador to Ukrainewhich resigned in April said he abandoned his position because he disagreed with the president’s foreign policy Donald Trump.

Bridget Brink, who served as US ambassador to Ukraine from May 2022 until her resignation last month, first explained the reasons for her departure in an opinion article published in the Detroit Free Press. Brick criticizes Donald Trump for pressing on Ukraine and not in Russia.

“I respect the right and responsibility of the president to define US foreign policy,” with the planned supervision by Congress, he says. “Unfortunately, after the Trump government took over, there was a policy of pressure on the victim, Ukraine and not to the attacker, in Russia,” he said.

A career diplomat, who has also served as US ambassadors to Slovakia (2019-2022), Bridget Brink thought it was her duty to resign. “Peace with any price is not even peace – it is soothing,” he points out.

Brink had publicly supported Ukraine, adopting the line of Trump’s predecessor to the White House, Democratic Joe Biden. Following Trump’s return to the US presidency in January 2025, Brink’s statements became much more neutral.

In April, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski was publicly criticized for a lukewarm reaction to Russia’s missile attack on the city of Krivi Rich, due to which 20 people were killed – including nine children.

A few days later, the State Department announced the resignation of Bridget Brink.
