Ukraine: Fire near Zaporizia Nuclear Station – no threat of leakage assures the IAEA

Experts of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IOEA) reported that they have found smoke today in his administration nuclear station of Zaporizia, in the southeast Ukraineafter reports of fire near the cooling towers.

In a post on the X platform, the IAEA conveyed the words of General Manager Rafael Grossi, who stressed that there was no increase in radioactivity levels at the Zaporizia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, no impact on nuclear security and no victim.

The head of the IAEA has repeatedly called on the warring sides to demonstrate the maximum restraint in the area in order to avoid a risk of nuclear accident.

Zaporizia’s nuclear power plant – the largest in Europe – is located in the city of Enemidar, under Russian control, on the south bank of the Dnieper River.

Permanent presence of inspectors

Since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the IAEA has played a critical role in the safety of Ukrainian nuclear facilities. He often sends scales for checks to the reactors of Rivene and Khmelnitsky, and since September 2022 has maintained a permanent mission to Zaporizia Station.
