Change of guard for the military leadership of Armed forces to Turkeyin the context of the crises of senior officers held during a meeting of the Turkish Supreme Military Council, chaired by Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Today’s (05.08.2025) military crises in Turkey have brought about significant changes to the leadership of the Armed Forces after the former Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Metin Giurak, was demobilized.
The new leader of the land forces, Seljuk Bayraktaroglou, assumes the duties of a new A/GEED, while the new leader of the Turkish Army is taken over by the Commander of the First Army based in Constantinople, Metin Tel.
It was also decided that the term of office for one year by Navy Chiefs, Admiral Erzured Tatlioglou, and Air Force, Petrarchos Zijia Jemal Kantioglou.
A total of 45 senior officers are demobilized, in Taxiarchos and above, in all three branches. Following today’s decisions, the number of generals in the Turkish Armed Forces is increasing to 332 of the 316s today.
Decisions on crises in the Turkish Armed Forces are traditionally in force on August 30, an anniversary of the Turkish counterattack on the Asia Minor Front.
