Business ‘broom’ throughout Turkey Police performed today (24.06.2025), with the result that 158 were arrested military as suspects for links to the organization of the late preacher Fethullah Gulen.
As the Istanbul prosecutor’s office announced, These soldiers are prosecuted because they were considered to be “Gulenists” and therefore are related to coup attempt in 2016which accuses the famous “Gulen Network”.
According to the state -run Anadolu news agency, these arrests, which are added to about 50 others made in late May 2024, were carried out in 43 of the country’s 81 provincesincluding those of Constantinople and Smyrna.
Another 18 military are still wantedthe prosecution announced, according to which these arrests mainly concern the army of land.
Fethullah Gulen, who died at the end of October 2024 in the US, where he lived for more than 25 years, was a close ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, before becoming his sworn enemy.
Ankara accuses Gulen fans of penetrating Turkish institutions, including justice, armed forces, police and training, to create a ‘parallel state’.
Nearly 26,000 people defendants for joining the Gulenist movementwhich is described as “terrorist” by Ankara, have been arrested after the failed 2016 coup attempt. More than 9,000 have been imprisoned, according to Turkish justice.
After the death of the preacher, who has always denied that he was linked to this failed coup, President Erdogan had vowed to pursue his followers to “the farthest corners of the world”.
