The US President Donald Trump attacked the authorities once again in Brazil and claims that they are unjustly targeting the former president Zaich Bolsonaro.
“They are very unfair to President Zaich Bolsonaro,” Donald Trump told reporters, describing his former close ally “good man”.
“He was very tough in the negotiations, but he was also honest. And I know the honest ones, as well as I know the corrupt, “he added.
The US president has occasionally expressed in favor of Bolsonaro, claiming that he was victimized by “witch hunting” – a characterization that Trump has used to describe his treatment by political opponents himself.
For his part, Brazilian President Luis Inasio Lula da Silva has categorically rejected any “intervention” in his country’s internal affairs.
In a letter sent to Lula on Wednesday, Trump announced his decision to impose a 50% duty on imports from Brazil, further increasing tension in their relationships.
The Brazilian president said he would seek to settle the trade controversy through negotiations, but stressed that he would pay back if Trump has announced on August 1st.
During his departure from the White House to visit the affected by recent flooding areas of Texas, Trump said he might contact the Brazilian president.
“Maybe at some point I’ll talk to him. I’m not going to do it right now, “the US president told reporters.
