Within the next two to three weeks the US president will determine Donald Trump their duties For US trade partners, according to himself.
Specifically, Trump said today (16.5.2025) that US Finance Minister Scott Bessed and Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik “will send letters that will essentially tell people” what “they will pay to do work with the United States”. “I think we will be very fair with the duties. But they are unable to meet “with the 150 countries that want an agreement” with Washington, “the president said during a meeting with business executives in the United Arab Emirates.
He did not say how much or what nations will receive letters.
Last week, the US set up a limited trade agreement with Britain. Based on this, 10% duties remain in force in British exports but the highest duties on steel and cars are reduced.
Trump announced higher duties to dozens of trading partners on April 2 and then suspended them for 90 days amid investor panic to give foreign governments to negotiate. However, the president has been removed from the idea in recent weeks that he will be involved in a front-to-one partner.
