The duties Donald Trump has caused shock all over the globe but the Italian prime minister Georgia seems to keep a cooler attitude.
Italy is within the countries that directly affect the duties imposed by Donald Trump but Georgia Meloni stresses that they are a problem, but not a disaster.
“I believe that the choice of the United States is wrong, that it favors neither the European nor the American economy, but I believe -at the same time -that we should not feed the alarm climate of recent hours,” Meloni told Rai.
The Italian prime minister added that in the US market its country exports a total of 10% of its products and that “there is a problem that needs to be resolved, but this is not the disaster that some have.”
As Georgia Meloni pointed out, “her country will launch a dialogue with European partners, but she is not convinced that the best option is to have a reaction to trade duties, with other duties.”
As she said later, this option could damage her country’s economy and therefore “must begin a honest debate with the Americans, with the aim of abolishing rather than proliferation of duties”.
Finally, he said that Europe needs to simplify the rules, more courage in the field of energy and that “perhaps, at this stage, a revision of the stability pact would be necessary.”
