The government of the US president Donald Trump does not intend to impose immediately duties 10% to members of the BRICS developing group, but will proceed with this measure if some of the Member States adopt “anti -American” policies, according to a source that is aware of the issue.
Late on Sunday night (6.7.2025), Donald Trump announced that it would impose additional 10% tariffs on any country aligned with the so -called “anti -American policies”. Members of the BRICS team have categorically denied that they were turning against the US.
“We set boundaries. If decisions that are anti -American are taken, then the duties will be charged, ”said the source that asked not to be named because it is not allowed to talk about this issue.
Trump’s announcement on the Truth Social platform was made at a time when India, Indonesia and other BRICS Group countries are negotiating trade agreements with Washington.
Brazilian President Luis Inasio Lula da Silva commented that BRICS does not intend to “offend anyone” by assuring that “no one” at the team’s summit has discussed Washington’s threats. He commented, however, that it is “not serious” that the president of a country such as the US threatening the world by duties through posts on social networking platforms.
“If the US imposes duties, other countries have the right to do the same,” he added.
