A Japanese man’s life had a tragic end tourist who on Friday night (24/10/2025) at Romefell from the outer wall of the Pantheon and ended up in a 7 meter ditch.
According to reports, the 69-year-old tourist was sitting on the outer wall of the Pantheon in Rome when, under unclear circumstances, he fell into a moat about 7 meters deep that surrounds the iconic monument.
Paramedics arrived at the scene, but it was too late as the man was pulled out unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.
Rome police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. As reported by Italian media, the tourist had gone on vacation in Rome with his daughter, who testified to the authorities that her father lost his balance after suddenly feeling unwell.
In particular the area around the outer wall of the Pantheon is very busy and tourists stop very often to rest or take pictures.
This is of course not the only tragedy to hit tourists in Rome this year as in March, a 55-year-old woman from Spain died after falling from a high wall on the side of the Staircase.

The Pantheon, for those who don’t know it was built by the Roman emperor Hadrian and known for its imposing arched dome, remains one of Italy’s most visited monuments, although it’s also not free to visit.
Entry to the monument was free until 2023, when a €5 ticket was introduced, a decision that had caused some backlash, but did not diminish its popularity as in 2024 alone more than 4 million people visited it, with queues forming daily in Piazza della Rotonda.
