Tragedy in Egnatia: to the prosecutor the driver of the truck – “I didn’t see cars”

A horrible traffic accident occurred yesterday afternoon on the toll of Polymilos on Egnatia Road, mourning the area. Two cars and a truck were involved in a collision that resulted in the instant death of two people, who found a tragic end in the wreckage of their vehicles. In addition, five people were injured and taken to hospitals, fortunately without risk of their lives.

The picture left behind the accident was shocking, reminiscent of a bombed landscape. Authorities are investigating the causes of the tragedy, with the dense fog in the area at the time of the incident being considered as a possible factor.

Police have begun the collection of eyewitnesses, and the material from the toll cameras are expected to shed light on the events, if recovered by the central server due to the fire. According to first reports, the truck driver allegedly told authorities that he did not see the cars and did not react.

Initial reports of a possible problem with the toll bar for one of the IX are not confirmed. According to indications, the truck collided with the two cars on the spot, ending on the toll facilities.

The accident was also injured by the employee at the toll’s next box, from where the truck fell.

At the same time, the authorities’ preliminary investigation is in full swing, and in the context of investigating the circumstances of the accident, it is attempted to recover, from the recording system, the toll security cameras.
