Thousands of drivers- in the face of summer- are lifting the immobilization of vehicle them, by paying traffic charges With the month, and as they all show- with the help of fuel prices that move on a downward track- it is a matter of days to overcome 144,000 immobilization requests submitted in 2024, according to ERTNEWS.
The measure- which was activated in early April- allows vehicle owners to re-use their vehicles for the months they wish, avoiding payment of all traffic fees. However, there are specific rules that interested parties should know in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.
Removal of immobility with proportionate fees is done once a year. If the driver initially pays for a month and wants to extend the use of the vehicle, there is no new proportional payment. In this case, it should pay the entire rest of the traffic charges for the year.
With the end of the period covering the fees to the month, the vehicle must be registered again in digital immobility. The statement must be made on the last business day of the period, or the next one in the event of a holiday. Otherwise, the vehicle is considered illegally in traffic.
Drivers who have deposited signs in the tax office cannot lift mycar immobilization. They must naturally go to the tax office, with an insurance policy, proof of payment and receive the plates.
For limited traffic (eg transfer to KTEO or workshop), the special sign is available, at a cost of 10 euros per day for a private car. and 3 euros a day for bicycles, up to three days a year. Its use is strictly defined and does not replace the lifting of immobility.
Vehicle traffic, without preceding the lifting of immobility, brings heavy penalties: payment of all annual traffic charges, fine payment fine, an administrative fine of 10,000 euros, and in the event of a recurrence the bell reaches 30,000 euros while deducting 3 years.
Indeed, even public parking is considered a traffic, so it is a breach.
Toll cameras
The owners who dare to release their vehicles, and have digitally put them on stills and have not lifted them, should know that as of September 30, 2025, AADE will start utilizing material from the toll cameras to intersect the registration plates. Highway concessions will send weekly records with encrypted data to the tax office. Those who are found to circulate vehicles declared in immobility will be asked to explain within 10 days before a fine of 10,000 euros. In the event of committing the same infringement within five years, the fine is increased to EUR 30,000 and at the same time the driving license is deducted for a period of three years.
