These Are the 3 Third Countries With Highest Rejection Rates for Schengen Visas in 2024

Nationals of Comoros, Bangladesh, and Pakistan had the highest rejection rates for Schengen visas last year, indicating that their visa applications were rejected the most in proportion to their application rates. This means that nationals of these three countries were more likely to have their visa rejected than other applicants.

According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfonationals of Comoros were rejected 1,754 visas in 2024 out of 2,853 applications filed. That accounted for 62.8 per cent of visas being rejected, Schengen.News reports.

High rejection rates also stood out for applicants from Bangladesh, who filed 39,345 visa applications, out of which 20,957, or 54.90 per cent, were rejected. Pakistanis were rejected 47.5 per cent of 78,362 applications, resulting in 35,139 rejected visas.

Nationals of Comoros Remain the Most Rejected Nationality Group for Schengen Visas

Data from 2023 revealed that nationals of Comoros had the highest rejection rates, as nearly 61 per cent of visas were rejected. In total, applicants from Comoros had filed 3,700 and 2,170 their requests were rejected.

In 2024, they filed 2,853 visa applications, which is 24.2 per cent less than in the previous year. Yet, visa rejection rates were 62.8 per cent, even higher than the 61 per cent rejection rates recorded in 2023.

In total, applicants from Comoros were rejected 1,754 visas in 2024, compared to 2,174 rejected in 2023.

High Schengen Visa Rejection Rates Seriously Impacted Bangladeshi & Pakistani Applicants in 2024

Bangladeshis were rejected 17,015 out of 41,317 visa requests they made in 2023. That accounts for 42.8 per cent rejection rates. In 2024, the situation has not improved.

As the statistics reveal, Bangladeshis filed 39,345 visa applications in 2024, and 20,957 of these requests were rejected, accounting for 54.9 per cent not issued.

Pakistanis, on the other hand, were rejected 35,139 visas out of 78,362 that were rejected. This means that 47.5 per cent were rejected. In 2023, 41,798 visas were rejected for this nationality group out of 86,698 applications, indicating that rejection rates were 48.2 per cent.

For applicants from Comoros, France was the only destination for Schengen visas, thus, all rejections came from that country.

Bangladeshis’ highest rejection rates came from Sweden, rejecting 67.5 per cent of 17,917 applications they filed for visas.

Austria had the highest rejection rate for Pakistani applicants, rejecting 3,011 or 83.5 per cent of all visa applications. However, in terms of numbers, Spain rejected the highest number of visa applications from Pakistanis – a total of 6,686.
