Theophilos Xanthopoulos: “unprecedented rape of parliamentary morals” in the Education Bill

The MP of Drama and the Deputy Chief of the Interior of SYRIZA-PS, Theophilos Xanthopouloshe denounced the government, referring to a “unprecedented rape of parliamentary morals and democracy”, during the debate of the Ministry of Education’s bill. According to him, the government is constantly restricting citizens’ rights, trying to create “new fantastic enemies and opponents”, while arguing that the need for a “democratic, progressive change” is more necessary than ever.

Mr Xanthopoulos criticized the criminal provisions of the bill, arguing that they create a “special criminal law for HEIs”, which moves within the limits of the rule of law. He described the measures as a “symbolic criminal law” adopted for “purely communicative reasons”, with the aim of enhancing the “narrative of chaos and bahalakides in public HEIs” in order to compare with the “new glossy and sterile private HEIs”.

In addition, he asked the government not to have any thought of suspending the operation of the two schools of the Democritus University in Drama, where few students passed this year. Finally, he expressed his annoyance over the statement by the Minister of Education, “How easy is it to go to study Komotini?”, Asking her to recall the “Italian challenge” as he goes up the role of the Democritus University of Thrace in this remote area.
