Premiere made the White House’s official account yesterday Tiktokwith the aim of passing the messages of the US president Donald Trump in most of 170 million users of social media in the US.
Donald Trump believes Tiktok has helped him to win the support of young voters in the 2024 presidential election.
However, MPs and Senators are concerned that the personal information of Tiktok users in the US may fall into the hands of the Chinese government.
The US president has been trying to reach an agreement for months to buy Tiktok from his Chinese parent company byTedance.
The new account @WhiteHouse Activated yesterday, Tuesday, in the evening with his first post being a video in which Trump states: “I’m your voice.”
@whitehouse America we are BACK! What’s up TikTok?
“America we came back! What about Tiktok? “The caption wrote.
Three hours after posting this video, the White House account had 25,000 followers.
The Tiktok account used during his election campaign last year by Republican, @realdonaldtrump, has more than 15 million followers.
The US president is also very much based on his Truth Social account to pass his messages, and sometimes posts on his account in X.
“The Trump government is committed to informing the historical successes that President Trump offers to the American people through (…) as many platforms as possible,” White House spokesman Caroline Levit said.
“President Trump’s messages dominated Tiktok during his election campaign and we are excited to build on these successes and communicating in a way that he has never used a government,” he added.
A law ratified by Congress in 2024 forced Tiktok to stop operating in the US on January 19, 2025, unless byTedance sells the company.
But Trump has repeatedly extended this deadline, admitting that he has “a little weakness in Tiktok”.
The new deadline for the sale of Tiktok is September 17th.
