The weather is wild – Country on alert: There comes a three -day bad weather with strong thunderstorms – meteorologists’ reports

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Yiannis Kefalogiannis, convened the Risk Assessment Committee this morning, on the subject of Extraordinary Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomenawhich warns of the impending bad weather.

According to Commission scientists, from tomorrow Monday until Wednesday, heavy rains and thunderstorms will be marked in most areas of the eastern country. Particularly dangerous will be the phenomena of Monday afternoon in the Cyclades.

The Commission will meet again tomorrow to evaluate, based on the latest data, the rest of the Eastern areas. The Civil Protection Business Center has contacted Local Authorities, Security Forces and all stakeholders in order to be fully informed and to be on operational.

Bad weather: Red warning from EMY

The NMS issued a red warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms from Mondays Monday (31-03-25) to Wednesday morning (02-04-25) in most areas of the eastern country. According to Meteorologist and Research Director at the National Observatory of Athens, Costas Lagouvardo, the bad weather will have a long time, affecting the whole Greek territory, although with different intensity by region.

The phenomena will be locally dangerous:

  • In the Cyclades From noon Monday (31-03-25) to the morning of Tuesday (01-04-25).
  • In the islands of the eastern Aegean (mainly Samos-Ikaria-Chios) from Monday night (31-03-25) to Tuesday afternoon (01-04-25).
  • In the Dodecanese on Tuesday (01-04-25) from the early morning to the evening.
  • In eastern solids (including Attica) and Euboea From Monday afternoon (31-03-25) to the early morning hours of Tuesday (01-04-25).
  • In Thessaly and the Sporades From the early hours of Tuesday (01-04-25) to the evening of the same day.

Mr Lagouvardos said that the bad weather would continue on Wednesday, with rains and thunderstorms mainly in the southern regions of the country, including Crete, the Cyclades, the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. Despite the severity of the phenomena, temperatures will remain close to normal levels for the season.

GIS Recommendations to Citizens

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens are very careful and to take self -protection measures from dangers from the manifestation of severe weather. In particular, citizens are called:

  • To insure items that can be seduced by the winds.
  • Check that the flowers and gutters are not clogged.
  • To avoid crossing by torrents and streams, pedestrian or vehicle.
  • Avoid outdoor activities, especially in marine and coastal areas.
  • Be protected immediately in case of hail.
  • To avoid passing under trees and areas with light objects that may be detached.
  • Follow the instructions of the competent bodies, such as traffic and civil protection.

Civil protection will closely monitor the evolution of the phenomena and constantly inform the public.
