“Hezbollah’s disarmament is an internal theme that Lebanon needs to settle,” US Special Envoy Tom Barak said today (21.07.2025) as part of an interview with Beirut
US expert envoy joined Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on the course of the fragile ceasefire with Israel, while stressing that if Hezbollah was not disarmed, it would be a “frustrating” development.
The Lebanese leaderswho took on the duties after the clashes of more than one year that significantly weakened Hezbollah, reaffirmed their will for a state -run arms monopolywhile demanding from Israel to adhere to the ceasefire achieved in November.
Israel launches almost daily blows to Lebanon, saying that Targets Hezbollah fighters and infrastructurewhile warning that they would continue as long as the organization is not disarmed.
Tom Barack admitted that the A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah ‘doesn’t work’.
“The US has no job to try to force Israel to do anything. We are here to exert our influence in order to gather calm spirits around a solution, “he continued.
In June, Barack demanded from Lebanese leaders to formally commit that they will disarm the Hezbollahthe only movement that maintained its weapons after the Civil War (1975-1990).
“Your leaders were a lot of help,” he said during his second visit to Beirut, greeting ‘Reliable and important reforms’.
Earlier today, Tom Barack met with Lebanese President Joseph Aun, who gave him a “draft protocol agreement on the implementation of Lebanese commitments” after a ceasefire, according to the presidency.
