The Ministry of Defense of USA announced the granting of new military aid to Ukrainewhich is valued at $988 million. The new aid comes just before the inauguration of Donald Trump, who opposes sending aid to Kiev.
US aid to Ukraine includes drones, missiles for the Himars missile launch systems and increased assistance for the maintenance of critical equipment, the Pentagon said in a statement.
The aid announced today (07/12/2024) will be provided through a mechanism whereby military equipment is purchased from the defense industry or from partners and not drawn from US stockpiles. Therefore, this aid is not expected to be available in the short term for Ukraine to use on the battlefield.
Donald Trump, who tonight (07/12/2024) met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris along with French President Emmanuel Macron, has been very critical in recent months of the billions of dollars being released by Washington for Ukraine.
The president-elect has promised to end the war between Kiev and Moscow even before he was sworn in in January, without ever explaining how.
Ukraine’s European allies fear a US disengagement from the conflict or even US pressure for a deal at the expense of Kiev.
