The United States wants the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to join the path of “energy freedom”, instead of following the transition of the wider region to a net economy of zero balance, Minister of Energy Chris Warsaw told Warsaw today (28.4.2025).
The Energy Minister told the three seas in the business forum – in which numerous leaders from the region participate today – that Western Europe has chosen the wrong path of costly “from top to bottom enforcement climate policies”. He argued that investments in renewable energy (RES) are burdened with growth and boost foreign companies’ revenue and that Eastern Europe should choose a different path.
“Central Europe is facing a period of choice,” Wright told conference participants. “We warmly welcome you to participate with us in the team Energy Freedom and Prosperity for Citizens.” Under President Donald Trump, the US has begun to withdraw from the Paris agreement, a 2015 landmark agreement aimed at slowing global warming.
The government has also announced a series of measures to expand the mining and use of carbon and wants to help increase oil and gas production. Wright said that while climate change is “a real natural phenomenon”, it is not the most “urgent problem” in the world. “In fact, the clear conclusion from the economic studies of climate change is that the pure zero goal for 2050 is absolutely wrong,” he said. “Not only is it impossible, but its blind pursuit will cause it, it causes much more human damage than climate change itself.”
Trump has repeatedly called on Europe to buy more American energy products if the block wants to avoid duties. Wright came to Poland as US companies Westinghouse Electric and Bechtel Group signed the extension of the development contract for the country’s first nuclear power plant. Westinghouse also plans to build reactors in other parts of the area.
“The two biggest climate solutions in the coming decades are the same ones that have been the last two decades: gas and nuclear energy,” Wright said. “For the simple reason that they are working. They provide affordable, reliable and secure energy. ”
