The “sunny” on the side of parents with premature babies – family -centered units and the “Neubric” training program

The “sunny” is a bourgeois non -profit company founded by a family that experienced the experience of premature birth with their triplets. This experience was the reason to understand the serious difficulties that parents with premature babies and children themselves face.

The “sunny” focuses on supporting parents who have premature babies and the advocation of their rights, with the aim of better treatment of newborns during hospitalization and then on their long -term follow -up.

“The ” sunny ” unites the voice of these families with the voice of health professionals. He defends their cooperation because he believes that we can only promote the demand for the continuous improvement of the health care services of this vulnerable group. We are a member of the European Foundation for Neonatal Care, which recently became a World Foundation. It is an institution that coordinates the actions of a global network of corresponding organizations, that is, parents born prematurely, with the aim of every child wherever it is born, whoever is born, to have the best start in life, which is the basis of a good life, of the Parents and Patients Advisory Committee of the World GFCNI newborn institution.

Greece, along with Cyprus, records the highest rates of premature births in the European Union. “We are referring to the Papers of the World Health Organization, stressing that ” high rates are also observed in high -income countries such as Greece ”. That is to say, the prematureness rates we have should be lower, because high rates of prematureness are observed in low -income countries, because it is linked to prenatal monitoring, the health of mothers, etc. These high premature rates in Greece should be concerned with public health. ”

The difficulties facing families with premature babies

Problems in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (MENN) are also significant. The lack of adequate nursing staff makes baby care and support for families, even more difficult. Units in Greece do not meet international standards, as the Nurse Corporation Nurse is much less than desired, the Hellenic President emphasizes, and specifically states:

“While the Nurse -Males per incubator is 1 to 1 in very heavy cases and 1 to 2 in relatively lighter, in Greece it is 1 to 4 and often 1 to 6 in the afternoon and night shifts. That is, we are far from the model, which also has a model to do with baby safety. With infections, with staff fatigue. In addition, the units remain closed, limiting the time that parents can spend with their children, from a quarter to one hour, while in many other countries the model of family -centered care is prevalent with parents being in the units for a long time, even 24 hours a day.

‘Immortal Care Units’ necessary’

The shift to the open -type family -centered units is imperative. The scientific community has proven the positive effects of this approach to both parent -newborns’ mental health and children’s development.

“Children who have family -centered care are healthier than children who do not have such care. In the long run, we have better cognitive results, better social behavior, better growth, in all areas. Fewer feeding problems, breastfeed to a greater extent. The results are only positive.

Because our units are still closed, that is, only three of the 27 – private and public sectors – is with a wider visit, which means the presence of parents in the unit. But no one has the ability to stay in the way that they are built. There are no infrastructure, no unit is foreseen to have a room that parents can stay. Because spaces are also important. There should also be an infrastructure for the continuous presence of parents who are now nowhere. Only three units have opened the hours and parents go freely, especially mothers to breastfeed. They have started some units and take care of kangaroos, which is very important, that is, steps are being taken, ”says Ms. Vavouraki at newsit.gr

Neubric: A multidimensional training program for premature newborn care, based on European care for neonatal health care

In order to support this process, that is, the conversion of units into open -ended, family -centered -development units, it created a six -member scientific committee and set up the “Neubric” program, which aims to educate the traditional and traditional model. This education is essential, as this particular model of hospitalization is not taught in Greek Health Schools. It is worth noting that “Neubric” is designed in such a way that it can be personalized, covering each time the special needs of MENN staff in which training is done.
