A tour of five structures were held today by the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris In the context of preparing the reception services in view of the vote on the new bill on illegal immigration. The minister was accompanied by the Secretary General of Asylum seekers, Dimitris Glymis and the commander of the host and identification service, Ioannis Frangoulis.
Mr. Plevris visited the structures in succession in Malacasa, Oinofyta, Ritsona, Thebes and Shackwhere he toured the premises, was informed in detail about the recording and identification procedures, found operating problems and talked to the commanders as well as with structures.

During his tour, Mr. Plevris made the following statement: “Today we visit all the structures near Attica. The main targeting is, in addition to getting to know people and seeing the structures, to be prepared for the new targeting of the bill. Now, in the structures, there will be immediate information to those who seek asylum that, if their application is rejected and are targeted groups that we know that they do not have a refugee profile, then they will face a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years. Our goal is to speed up returns, even before the asylum process is completed. It should be clear early on that illegal residence in the country has consequences, and these consequences include deprivation of freedom. We are therefore preparing our structures so that after the bill is passed, at the beginning of September, they will be completely ready for the full information and implementation of the new framework. “
