The American Explorer was the first model to be fitted with rear seat belts with integrated airbags. Now Ford’s technology will also come to Europe, premiering in the new Mondeo, which is expected in the Old Continent in the first quarter of 2013.
The integrated airbag belt is designed to reduce head, neck and chest injuries to rear passengers – especially children.
In everyday use, seat belts with an inflation system function like conventional ones and are safe for use with child seats. In the event of an accident, the belt inflates and automatically distributes the impact forces over an area five times larger than the surface of a conventional safety belt.
