The internal party crisis takes on wider dimensions that go beyond the limits of its poll appeal New Leftturning back the clock to 2015. With the leadership team (Haritsis, Ahtsiolou, Iliopoulos) to lose connections in the Central Committee of the party, another day – and rather ominous – dawned for Patision, which is being squeezed hour by hour even more by the potential “Tsipras party”.
Although the latter is not currently on the electoral horizon, however what happened over the weekend at the Central Committee of the New Leftportend an uncertain future for the party, which is headed for borderline situations.
Specifically, the members of the Central Committee of the New Left voted against the proposal of the President of the party, Alexis Haritsiwho in turn called the body to an intra-party referendum, with the request for the consensus of the progressive forces, but also for a “common ballot of the Plural Left”.
However, the position expressed jointly by the Secretary of the New Left, Gabriel Sakellaridis with executives of “Umbrella” (Skourletis, Tsakalotos, etc.), who are said not to advance the question of collaborations at this stage, considering that such a thing leads the New Left mathematically to the split.
Although contentious for the majority of the party, as it was expressed in the Central Committee, it is a radical expression of the Left, this does not mean that it is willing to make painful political compromises, in order to collude, for example, with MeRA25 of Yanis Varoufakis.
Instead, many of New Left’s top brass feel that a decision on alliances will bring the party into a state of liquidation, dramatically speeding up developments for the space, although the desirability is to preserve the “old Coalition space” as an ideological and political constant.
In this light, the “Nestor” of the space, Thodoris Dritsas called for an informal intra-party moratorium until the Programmatic Congress, to prevent any break-up in motion for the New Left, especially as the former prime minister’s appearances escalate; Alexis Tsipras.
The engines are at full blast
With an obvious renewal in its communicative and political aesthetics, the former prime minister is escalating his “total reset” every dayas his associates yesterday published a video from the… printing presses, as… proof of the final stretch, in which his book is located, which, according to information, does not overlook the role played in recent years by many of the current executives of the New Left.
In this sense, for many in the New Left, the study of solving the issue of collaborations seems incomprehensible, since a liquidation of the party, which seems more than possible, does not necessarily flow to the shores of the “Tsipras party”. Much more so when the former prime minister’s book includes facts and documents for the time period after 2019 and up to today.
At the same time, Alexis Tsipras keeps his political friends “warm”, feeding the public debate on a daily basis now with material from his book, unfolding on a second level his program proposal for the next day.
Speaking today, for the first time in detail about the writing of “Ithaca“, Mr. Tsipras explains in an interview that “Ithaca is not a destination, it is an eternal journey. And this concerns each of us. Because we all experience our own Odysseys and have our own Ithacas.”

“Collective Adventure”
“Ithaca is also about politics. It has to do with the Left, it has to do with society, it has to do with social struggles, the evolution of the world,” Mr. Tsipras notes in the excerpt he previously published and adds that “it doesn’t stop, this never stops.”
“And Ithaca is almost like the socialism we used to say, that the more you go towards it, the further away it will be. Like the horizon that recedes as you go. In this sense, the title I have chosen also has a philosophical value. Of course, I chose him six months ago, having structured the book and having finally realized that there is an allegorical field of everything we lived as a collective adventure and the adventure that each person has fighting, claiming, hoping, dreaming and conquering some of them”, concludes Mr. Tsipras.
