“Pray for me.” These were the last words of Frank Caprio, the famous judge of Rhodes Island to USAto his thousands of followers on social media, just hours before he left life at the age of 88. Struck by pancreatic cancer, he once again called for the power of prayer, as he had done in his previous hospitalization.
In his moving message on Facebook, the US judge said: “You prayed for me last year and that helped me go through a difficult time. Unfortunately the disease has returned and I am in the hospital again. I deeply believe that God is listening to us, so I ask you to remember me again in your prayers. “
A judge who embodied humanity
Caprio, known as “the most compassionate judge in the world”, became world -renowned worldwide thanks to the Caught in Providence. His television appearances, where he was humorously and kindly facing minor offenses, gathered more than a billion views on the internet.
For almost forty years in the court of Providens, there was a symbol of justice near the citizens, sensitive to the difficulties of the weakest. “Justice must be accessible to everyone, but it is not,” he had complained, utilizing his reputation to highlight inequalities in the US judicial system.
A format honored beyond the US
His family described him as “a dedicated wife, father and grandfather, faithful to the values of compassion, humility and kindness.” In a message on Instagram, she called on people to honor him “trying to bring a little more compassion to the world, as he did daily.”
Even after his retirement in 2023, Caprio continued to share videos on YouTube and in 2025 published his memoirs. His death caused a wave of emotion in the United States and internationally, with his latest message now sounding like a legacy.
