The Honda FCX Clarity as a… generator

The Honda FCX Clarity can work as a mobile electricity generator! As part of the presentation of a solar hydrogen production plant at its Saitama facility, the Japanese company gave a demonstration of its environmentally friendly technologies. This initiative is part of the electric vehicle testing program and Honda has equipped this particular model with a special socket that acts as a 9 kW power supply.

This is the first installation in the Land of the Rising Sun of an integrated hydrogen production, storage and distribution system with zero carbon dioxide emissions.

A high-pressure water electrolysis system developed by Honda produces the hydrogen. Without a mechanical compressor, the system is almost silent and very energy efficient. Powered by the sun and the public grid, the system can produce 1.5kg of hydrogen within 24 hours, giving the FCX Clarity a range of almost 150km!
